ZAVKHAN
Zavkhan Aimag covers an area of 82,500
square kilometers, and has an estimated population of 86.88
square kilometers, and has an estimated population of 86.800
inhabitants. The administrative center is the town of Uliastai,
situated in the valley of the Bogd River, at an altitude of
1,760 meters above sea level, and 984 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
Otgon Tenger Uul Strictly Protected
Area
The peak of Otgon Tenger Uul is 4,021 meters above sea level,
covered by eternal snow. It is one of the worshipped mountains
of Mongolia. The Otgon Tenger has many rare plants including
Snussurea involucrate, Adonis mongolica, and Juniper (Juniperus).

Spring of Otgon Tenger
Otgon Tenger spring is located on the valley of the Rashaan
River surrounded by Baga Uul, a spur of Otgon Tenger, at
an altitude of 2,510 meters above sea level. The spring
has been studied since 1912. The components of the spring
water include sulphate, bicarbonate and soda. There are
over 30 streams, the water temperature is 50oC and the spring
is used as a bath and drink for extremities, nervous, cardiovascular
and digestive diseases.

agui (mother cave) 137 m
Borkhyariin Els
This sand dune with 180 km length, 15 km wide and covering
on area of 2500 square kilometers is located on the basin
of Khungui River.
Rupture of major earthquake
The longest active land fault in the World-the Bulgan fault-created
a shattered surface zone near the north of the lake of Oigon
Nuur on 32 July 1905, with a violence of 8.2 to 8.7 (Richer)
on the Richter Scale, “on of the largest known earthquakes
in continental regions” according to international team
of seismic experts. Immediately afterwards, open fissures
were 60 meters deep and over 10 meters wide.
Coldest town in
Mongolia
The town of Tosontsengel holds the record as the coldest
recorded place in Mongolia. A temperature of -52.9C has
been recorded in winter in the town.
