UVURKHANGAI
Uvurkhangai aimag includes the site of the ancient
capital city of Chinggis khan – Kharakhorum
– the capital city of what was the largest Land Empire
the World had ever known, either before or since.
Uvurkhangai aimag has an area of 62.9000 square km and a population
of 114.000 inhabitants. The administrative center is the town
of Arvaikheer situated in the southern part of the Khangai
Mountain Range, and the town lies an altitude of 1.913 meters
above the sea level, 430 km from UB.
Mountain of Khugnu Khan Uul
The mountain of Khugnu Khan Uul was made of granites of Paleozoic
age. Here are places mentioned in the ‘Secret History
of the Mongols’ such as Nakhu Gun and Sair kheer.
Elsen Tasarkhai
Elsen Tasarhai is a crossing that extends about 80 km and
lies between Mongol Els and Khugnu Tarma ELs.
Erdenezuu
Monastery
This was the first Buddhist monastery, erected on the initiative
of Abtai Sain Khan in 1585 at Kharkhorum, the 13ht Century
capital of Mongolia. Two burial tombs of Abtai Sain Khan and
his son Tusheet khan Gombodorj were placed around the monastery.
The museum of the monastery has unique exhibits such as the
cast god image, clothes and musical instruments.
The Erdenezuu Monastery has a rectangular shaped perimeter
wall, 400 meters long and with wide sides. There are four
gates at each side and 108 stupas – 25 of them on each
of the 4 sides and 2 on each of Four Corners. Erdene Zuu monastery
was severally damaged at the end of the XVII century and the
beginning of the XVIII centuries at the time of the struggle
of the Mongolians against the Manchu invaders. It was restored
several times, in 1760-1796 and in 1808-1814.
Kharkhorum
City ruins. The city was established in 1220. Kharkhorum
was the capital of Mongolia for 140 years and the capital
of the Mongol Empire for 32 years. The city was destroyed
soldiers of Min State in XIV century. The ruin of Kharkhorum
has been protected since 1961. The Erdenezuu monastery and
ruin of Kharkhorum were registered
by UNESCO in world heritage in 1996. There are several tourist
camps such as Kharkhorum, Khanbayan, Chandmani, Uguudei and
Nomin around the Kharkhorin soum.
The soum is the nativeland of Z. Oidov who is twice champion
of the world and labour hero and the status was erected in
administrative center.
Moiltiin am
The ruins of Moiltiin Am are west of the Orkhon River, near
Kharkhorum. Moiltiin Am settlement
is important in understanding the emer;ence of early society
in Central Asia and Northern Asia, because of the archeological
evidence of continuous occupation for thousands of years,
from the Middle Paleolithic to the Mesolithic. Finds of stone
implements tell the story. Evidence suggests stone implements
tell the story. Evidence suggests stone tools were produced
not only by chipping and trimming, but also by grinding. Moiltiin
Am appears to have had continuous human occupation for 20.000
years.
Shanhiin
Khiid
It’s one of the ancient monasteries of Mongolia and
was established in 1950. The Sariin River lows by east of
the Baruun Khuree monastery that was recently renewed and
Undur Gegeen Zanabazar spent his childhood here. The palfce
of white & black flags of Chinggis Khaan will be built
on the valley of ‘Sariin gol’ near the Shankh.
Hot spa of Khujirt
Khujirt spa is located on the banks of the Khujirt River,
and lies at an altitude of 1.660 meters above sea level. Its
components are bicarbonate, carbonate, sodium and spluttered
hydrogen. The temperature of the water is +55oC the spring
water is used for treating nervous, back, extremities and
cardiovascular diseases. A tourist camp is near the spa. The
most interesting nearby sights are several rectangular tombs.
Orkhon
river
The Orkhon River has its source in the Khangai Mountain Range
and flows 1.124 km, joining the Selenge River in northern
Mongolia and so to Lake Baikal in Siberia. The main tributaries
of the Orkhon River are the Tamir and Yeroo rivers, which
have their source in the Khentii
and Khangai mountain range.
The Orkhon River has numerous species of fish, such as Pike,
Mirror Carp, Baikal Sturgeon, Taimen< Sig, River Perch,
Siberian Umber, Roach, Ide, Bull Ide, Golden Carp, Amur Catfish
and Burbot.
The Uurtiin Tohoi
It is a cold spring with carbonic gas, which lies at the cheer-sided
canyon of the Orkhon river. A small cliff and waterfall are
at the mouth of the Khurgan Khurem. The nearby place Memeen
Chuluun has interesting sights such as the rectangular tombs
of the Bronze Age.
Waterfall of Ulaan Tsutgalan
Ulaan Tsutgalan, a waterfall on the Ulaan River, cascades
from an impressive height of 20 meters, and it extends for
100 meters from the Orkhon river.
Red rock of Uuld
The Ongotsot Bridge of Ulaankhad is on the Orkhon River from
the north of the center of Bat-Ulzii & 30 km from the
eastern of the Waterfall. It was named ‘Uuldiin Ulaan
Khad’ due to soldiers of Galdanboshigt stayed on the
Ulaan Khoshuu of the northern of this bridge. You will see
Forest zone on back of the Khangai mountain range, alpine
peak, folds of Tsegeen, Manangiin Tarkhi, Manangiin gurvan
khovod, glacial kars of Zest & Ulaan the mountains with
alpines & cliffs on your south from there (bridge).
Ruins of capital of Uigar State
Orkhon Khar Balgas was the capital state of the Uigar State
(9th Century AD) and stands on the east bank of the Orkhon
river.
Following the collapse of the Turkic State arose the Uigar
State. Orkhon Khan Balgas was founded as the capital city
in 751 AD Bayanchur Kagan. And covered 25 square km. surrounded
by a wall of umber brick and with a water canal around the
perimeter. The city building covered 5 hectares.

Khushuu Tsaidam is a Turkic inscribed monument of the Turkic
State. The inscription was written by the grandson of Kulitegin
and devoted to the Bilge Khan of Turkish origin and his old
brother Kulitegin in 732. It is noteworthy that the ‘Orkhon
inscription’ has both a historical and scientific significance.
White palace of Tsogt
This beautiful palace is situated in the valley of the Tuul
River, 20 kilometers north east of the Chin Tolgoi Kherem.
The White Palace was of a queen, Madai Taigal, mother of prince
Tsogt who was a famous historical person, politician and well-know
poet of the 17th century.
Ikh Tsagaan nuur
It is a very marshy lake with canes on the north of the big
road. There are many different kind of birds in summer.
Shireet Tsagaan Nuur
It completes three little lakes, which are located on the
Mongol Els and in the east south bottom of Ikh Mongol Uul.
When Undur Gegeem Zanabazar was 5 year old he was proclaimed
as a Bogd of Mongolian Buddhist religion and the palace (ger)
with yellow girdle on the coast of this lake in 1693. Said
that the base of our capital city was established from there.
The Shireet Tsagaan nuur is shown appearance of gobi, Khangai
and alpine zones.
Tuvkhun
monastery
Tuvkhun Monastery, in 1653, believers who gathered in Erdene
Zuu Monastery decided to build a special Monastery for Zanabazar.
Following this decision the Monastery Tuvkhun was built at
Shireet Ulaan, the most beautiful scenery in Khangai Mountains.
We will continue riding along the river until reach our overnight
camping spot on the river's shores.
Tuvkhen monastery is located in the densely forested and picturesque
mountain Shivee at an elevation of 2000m above sea level.
Tuvkhen monastery consists of a stupa, prayer wheels and 14
temples and orginally had about 20 lamas.
A meditation site associated with Erdene Zuu, during the late
Mongol period the Tuvkhun monastery
has two caves to the weat and north-west directions.
The first temple of Tuvkhen monastery was built in 1654. Researchers
have determined that this first temple was the meditational
studio of Under Gegeen Zanabazar.
Tuvkhen monastery was restored in 1760 and 1786. One undamaged
temple (temple-studio) and foundations of buildings, wooden
floors, ruins of some temples were protected by the province
in 1971 and by the State in 1994. A restoration design for
the undamaed temple-studio was made in 1992.
Hot springs of Khuremt
The Khuremt hot spring has been used since ancient times.
Components include bicarbonate and sodium. The maximum temperature
of the water reaches 58.8C. There are 10 streams, and the
spa water is used for extremities and nervous diseases.
Altan els
It is a beautiful place near the Arts Bogd Mountain. There
is a beautiful cliff named Uush shakhlaga with vestige of
ancient animals on the south west of the Uusg Mountain and
north of the Arts bogd.
