Kharkhorin

Ancient capital city of the Mongolia, was established
1220 and was the capital of largest Chinggis Khan Empire (13th
century) world had ever known. Visit Erdene Zuu monastery,
which is the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. It was
built at the initiative of the most influential Khalkha Lord
Abtai Khan, in 1586 on the spot where was Kharkhorin.

Day
1
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. Accommodation
in Palace Hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Bogd Khaan Winter
Palace Museum and Zaisan Hill War Memorial. The Winter Palace
was the home of the eight Bogd Khaan, and consists of a complex
of temples and the Bogd’s European-style home, which
is filled with such wonders as a ger covered in snow-leopard
furs, gifts to the Bogd Khaan from world leaders, and stuffed
seals, penguins and even a giraffe.
Day 2
Depart for Kharkhorin. The city
was established in 1220. Kharkhorin
was the capital of Mongolia for 140 years and the capital
of the Mongol Empire for 32 years. Box lunch. Overnight in
"Mongon mod" Ger hotel.
Day 3
Drive to Erdene Zuu monastery.
Look around this historical place. Erdene Zuu monastery is
the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. It was built at
the initiative of the most influential Khalkha lord Abtai
Khan, in 1586 on the spot where Kharkhorin, the famous capital
of the Mongolian Empire of the 13th century. The territory
of the monastery occupies an area of 400 square meters and
is surrounded by a stone wall with 108 stupas. The stone columns,
blocks and sculptures excavated from the ruins of the city
show that various building materials were used in the construction
of this monastery, which began in the 16th century and continued
until the 19th century. Visit
Shankh temple. Shankh temple is one of the ancient monasteries
of Mongolia, which used to keep the Chinggis Khan’s
military black banner. Visit a nomadic family. Observe a nomadic
way of life and the technology of making milk products. Taste
airag (mare's milk). Horse riding. Overnight in Ger hotel.
Day 4
Visit Orkhon Khar Balgas. Orkhon Khar Balgas was the capital
of the Uigur State (9th century) and stands on the east bank
of the Orkhon river. Following collapse of the Turkic State
arose the Uigur State. Orkhon Khar Balgas was founded as the
capital city in 751 AD by Bayanchur Kagan and covered 25 square
kilometers, surrounded by a wall of umber brick and with a
water canal around the perimeter. The city buildings covered
5 hectares. Archeological studies demonstrate areas of the
city were allotted for trade and handicrafts, in the center
of the city were palaces, monastery and temples. The palace
had castle walls around it and two main gates in the north
and south plus watch towers. There are also archeological
finds of quarters used by translators of books. Overnight
in Ger hotel.
Day 5
Drive to Khushuu Tsaidam, which is a Turkic Inscribed Monument
of the Turkic State (6th to 8th Centuries A.D). The inscription
was written by the grandson of Kulitegin and devoted to the
Bilge Khan of Turkish origin and his old brother Kulitegin
in 732. It is noteworthy that the “Orkhon inscription”
has both a historical and scientific significance. Continue
drive to Lake of Ugii Nuur – beautiful lake with fish
and birds. Lunch on Lake Side – traditional Mongolian
dish – meat processed hermitically cally with hot stones.
Drive back to a camp for overnight. Overnight in Ger hotel.
Day 6
Return to Ulaanbaatar.
Day 7
City sightseeing. Tour the Museum
of National History, making sure to see the dinosaur skeletons
uncovered in the Gobi and the Golden Camel Museum section.
Afterwards there will be time for cashmere and souvenir shopping.
National folk and dance concert. Overnight at hotel.Day 8

1
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and check in at the hotel. After the
welcome lunch you will make a city tour and visit the wonderful,
still in use, Gandan Monastery, the Sukhbaatar Square and
the Natural History Museum.
Day 2

Day 5
Drive to Uurtiin Tokhoi waterfall, following Orkhon river
upstream. The Uurtiin Tokhoi is a cold spring with carbonic
gas, which lies at the sheer sided canyon of the Orkhon river.
A small cliff and waterfall are at the mouth of the Khurgan
Khurem. The nearby place Temeen Chuluu has interesting sights
such as the rectangular tombs of the Bronze Age. The historical
place of Uuld Ulan Had, which was visited by Galdanboshigt,
on his way to conquer the Khalkha, can be seen from the northern
part of the Orkhon river. Overnight in tents nearby Tuvkhun
temple.
Day 6
Visit Tuvkhun temple.
On the peak of the Tuvkhun Uul is the monastery of Tuvkhun.
Undur Gegeen Zanabazar erected it. Mongolians erected about
10 stone monasteries in the 17th century. Travel to Arkhangai
aimag. Overnight in tents nearby river Tamir.
Day 7
See Zaya Gegeen temple museum, situated in the center of Arkhangai
aimag. Zayan Gegeenii Huree – a large old Buddhist
Monastery, remarkably intact, preserved as a museum –
but with an active community of monks. The first temple was
opened in 1586, expanded to 5 temples in 1679. The contents
are magnificent, housing many treasures, clothes, seals, games,
weapons, ceremonial masks and fine collection of Mongolian
musical instruments. Overnight in tents at the Choidog Borgio
waterfall.
Day 8
Trip reaches lake Terkhiin Tsagaan, which is a beautiful lake
with crystal clear fresh water. Great Cormorant is common
in Summer flying around and nesting on the hill at the lake
of Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. This lake is an astonishingly beautiful
lake with crystal clear fresh water. The lake supports Pike
and other fish. Overnight in "Horgo"Ger camp.
Day 9
Full day at the lake. Visit Khorgo volcano, which enjoys State
protection as a National Park. The volcanic crater of the
Togoo Uul is 200 meters wide and 100 m deep. Red deer, Siberian
Deer, Wild Boar, Ruddy Shelduck and duck are found here. Overnight
in Ger camp.
Day 10
Drive back to Taikhar Chuluu. Overnight in “Taikhar”
Ger Camp.
Day 11
Arrive in the Ugii Nuur – beautiful lake with fish and
birds. Lunch on Lakeside – traditional Mongolian dish
– meat processed hermetically with hot stones. Overnight
in “Ogii” Ger Camp.
Day 12
After breakfast drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
Overnight in hotel.
Day 13
Tour the Museum of National History
and, shopping, relaxing. National folk and dance concert.
Overnight in hotel.
Day 14
Transfer to airport for return flight.
