DORNOGOBI
Dornogobi Aimag means “Eastern
Gobi” on open landscape of arid grasslands prone to
episodes of severe drought and dust storms when the desert
aspect takes over.
Dornogobi Aimag covers 109,500 square kilometers and has an
estimated 51,500 inhabitants. The administrative center is
Sainshand town, 938 meters above sea level, 463 kilometers
from Ulaanbaatar, and south of the 45th
parallel. The aimag is in the Gobi of eastern Mongolia, and
averages nearly 1200 meters, with Bogd the highest peak, 1,721
meters above sea level. The aimag is rich in fluorspar, coal
and maybe oil resources.
Large sand dunes of the Gobi
Burdene Bulag includes some the largest and most extensive
sand dunes of the Gobi desert. The sand is used for nervous
a kidney diseases with a Sanitarium.
Small Gobi strictly
protected area
On 1993, it was established as a strictly protected area
by Parliament Resolution 83.
This area represents the main characteristics of the south-eastern
Gobi region of Mongolia and has relatively preserved its
original features and condition. It is the main habitat
for rare and very rare wildlife of the world, such as Khulan
(will ass), black-tailed gazelle, argali (mountain sheep),
and ibex. About 50% of the Khulan population of our country
inhabit in this area.
Ergeliin zoo
The rocks of Ergeliin Zoo Natural Reserve are World famous
for its palaeontological remains of Dinosaurs of the Mesozoic
Era. The Natural Reserve was declared in 1996, and covers
60.900hectares of land 30 kilometers northwest of the center
of Khatanbulag Soum. The northern slope is sheer. Giant dinosaurs
lived here in the Mesozoic Era. New finds of ancient animals
are reported here.
Suikhent Petrified
Forest Monument
Suikhent Petrified Forest formed hundreds of millions of
years ago in the Jurassic Period of the Mesozoic Era. The
fossil forest id located 60 kilometers west of Ulgii Khiid.
The Petrified Forest of Suikhent is distributed over an
area 500 meters long and 800 meters wide it consists of
the fallen trunks of many large trees, with logs up to 20
meters long and from 50 centimeters to 1,5 meters in diameter.
Mountain with rare animals
Argali and Siberian Ibex are found here. There are many gorges
with willow trees. In 1996 the Nart Mountain Natural Reserve
was declared to safeguard 43,700 hectares.

Hiid
Warship temple, warshiped since long ago by the dwellers of
the Gobi, 1998.
Home museum of Danzanravjaa, a well-known educator of Mongolia
of the 19th centery, was established in 1991. The Home-museum
is a large museum which has more than 1200 archeological finds
related to the biography and works of the great writer born
In the Mongolia Gobi the 19th century, theatre of nomads,
culture, arts, and religious rites.
The museum has precious rare exhibits which left from the
Mongolian nomads as well as historic precious exhibits of
other Asian countries, such as Japan, China, India and Tibet,
related to history of two centuries ago.
A wooden printing block of the Tan period given by Yunhegun
temple of China to Danzanravjaa as an offering for spreading
of religion in 1840. There are doll-models showing clothes
and characters of the first Mongolian theatre founded in 1830
in the museum. Tudev, who was a servant of Prince Danzanravjaa,
saved the books and gods of the monastery and they were kept
by his generation, and at last were displayed in 1990.

Scientists and researchers found some important finds of paleontology,
such as head of swamp rhinoceros, buffalo, eggs of ostrich,
bones and remains of predators, hoofed animals and ruminants
and some of then are displayed at the research and advertisement
center of the Museum of Aimag.
An oasis with sand dune and spring where ritual of Buddhism
was conducted in the 19th century.
